July 13: Klasting

One thing about having cancer—
I do find myself slightly, that is, a little bit, a tad,
very slightly,
LESS CONCERNED
with living up to others’ expectations.

I don’t mean that I have started belching at the table. I still try to respect local customs.

But that does not extend to my own customs.
One should never respect
OR to put it in a positive way,
one ought, OR, our best hope,
perhaps, is for each of us, individually,
to smash our own idols. Not the idols of the other guy.
She has to do that herself. But one’s own. Born to.
One’s own. AND THEN THOSE OF ONE’S TRIBE.

We call that HOPE.
It has never been more important
to swim against the current,
to turn the current
off.
