This makes entirely too much sense for it to happen. Oh, but lord, it would be the greatest, most up-with-people decision our government has ever made. Better yet, since the bail-out money is a hand-out to big business, rather than a loan that must be repaid, why not a Student Loan Debt Forgiveness Act? I would take that over a straight up $50,000 loan any day.

The stimulus regime, as it stands now, infuriates me so much that I don't even like to think about it. Nothing our government has ever done has steamed me as much as this act. To me, the rampant militarism and empire-building and lording it over the subalterns of the world is par for the course for an institution like our government, but this is really the straw that breaks the camel's back. There is now simply no way to hide how beholden our government is to the fat cats, no way to spin this to make it seem like something it is not, like something dutiful or patriotic or serving the greater good. It is simply to offer life support to a dying status quo for as long as possible before the inevitable and terrifying collapse.

My god, it makes me believe that there will be an honest to god revolution. Probably not. Sigh. We'll see, or perhaps we'll all end up in this supposed FEMA prison camps instead.

"Why do we want to save a system that has been squeezing and impoverishing the majority of Americans for thirty years? Let it fail. What are we trying to defend? A manic consumerism needing more and more landfills?"

Very well said. Indeed as the piece states it would be better to bailout the people rather than a failed system; but doesn't dogma state that bailing the system out, bails the most individuals out? So then, how are those with the power to write the cheques to be convinced that the common people are a better investment than one's investors within the system? As long as we the commoners continue to be manic consumers, it doesn't seem that we are any better investors in the future of our nation than those flying around in private jets.

btw, great website and especially thanks a bunch for the pdf's of some of Dale's more hard-to-obtain pieces. very nice
